What happened when an exclusive publication wanted to use a classic American icon to make waves at America’s premier aftermarket automotive event? This spectacular Superformance MKIII re-creation Cobra debuted at the 2008 SEMA show and propelled Makes & Models magazine to a whole new level! As one of the finest Cobras ever built, this 560 horsepower supercharged 427 replica is a fully sorted and expertly detailed show car that wears a licensed Shelby body and features autographs from both Carroll Shelby himself and legendary engine builder Jack Roush.

When you take a car to SEMA, you’re displaying in front of hundreds of the most skilled and influential car guys in the world. Every part of the car has to be flawless and EVERYTHING about the cars build has to be absolutely perfect. This ’65 Cobra began with exceptionally solid fiberglass that doesn’t show any signs of waves or ripples. On top of that fiberglass, an even and smooth gel coat provides an excellent canvas for the cars wet-look Pepper Gray paint and a killer set of red and silver racing stripes. Once that spectacular paint was buffed to a brilliant shine, proper finish work ensured that this laser-straight re-creation looks every bit as good as the old school aluminum 427 Cobra it replicates.

At the front of the car, like-new chrome trimmed headlights sit above correct Lucas style chrome trimmed parking lights and chrome front bumperettes. At the sides of those bumperettes, mesh filled vertical grilles border a massive radiator opening that houses two polished electric fans which in addition to providing increased cooling, give the car a more intimidating presence. Behind that radiator, the cars smooth fiberglass hood features locking hood latches and a riveted hood scoop that sits parallel to a Jack Roush autograph on the passenger’s side front fender. On top of the cars slick fuselage, a single chrome roll bar complements a traditional polished fuel filler and a new glass windshield that is complete with side visors stainless wipers and a great looking stainless frame. At the sides of the car, ceramic coated side pipes sit below brushed aluminum racing mirrors, finned aluminum air extractors and large “65” decals that look fitting and appropriate. At the back of the car, chrome trimmed tail lights sit on either side of a chrome tag bracket above two more matching chrome bumperettes. Keeping this Cobra glued to the race track is a custom a set of 18 inch American Racing Shelby Pin wheels that wear 275/35 front and massive 335/30 rear Michelin Pilot Sport radials.

But enough about the trim, let’s get to the REALLY amazing part of this Cobra. The cars fresh 351 Windsor V8 has been bored and stroked to 408 cubic inches, features an 8.5 to 1 compression ratio and puts out a dragon slaying 560 horsepower and 575 lb./ft. of torque! The top end of the motor is beefed up by a Paxton Novi 1200 supercharger with seven pounds of boost, an Aeromotive high performance electronic fuel pump with dual filters and a boost adjustable fuel pressure regulator, and a polished Edelbrock Performer RPM intake. Spark is provided by an MSD 6AL ignition system, an MSD points distributor and MSD Super Conductor wires, and slick ceramic coated headers make quick work of the spent gases. Cooling isn’t an issue with the cars fan cooled aluminum radiator and polished water pump keeping everything in check, and the detailed build even included grade-A ancillary components like a power brake booster and engine oil cooler. This Cobras entire custom fabricated aluminum engine bay is held together with aircraft style aluminum rivets and features complete satin nickol AN fittings and stainless steel braided hoses. Even the mundane details were well planned and expertly executed with polished aluminum valve covers carrying a K&N crankcase breather, fresh belts spinning billet aluminum pulleys and a chrome radiator overflow tank sitting just ahead of the engine.

The best things about Cobra replicas are: 1) they’re built specifically for doing a great job at going very fast and 2) they’ve been perfected to the point that your face will hurt from smiling when you take one out on the track. Bolted into this car’s correct all tubular steel frame is a modern TKO600 5-speed performance transmission that is equipped with a McCleod scatter shield and a Centerforce clutch and pressure plate. That transmission feeds a tough Dana 45 limited slip rear end that does an excellent job of transferring the cars massive power to the ground with very little drama. At the front of the chassis, modern tubular upper and lower control arms are equipped with a heavy duty sway bar and coil overs that house performance Bilstein shocks. Out back, four more modern tubular control arms are equipped with a second heavy duty sway bar and two more coil overs with performance Bilstein shocks. Stops come courtesy of a four wheel Wilwood brake system that sends fluid from a hydraulic clutch master cylinder via braided hoses to red Superlite big bore four piston calipers which clamp 13 inch slotted front Wilwood GT rotors and 12 inch slotted rear rotors. Aesthetically, the bottom of this car is as clean and show worthy as its top side, and when the excellent drivetrain is combined with the track ready sport tuned suspension, the result is an insanely fun driving experience!

Jump inside the car and you’ll find nice custom embroidered leather seats that feature Cobra four point racing harnesses with cam-lock releases. The cars painted dash is covered in tight black leather and houses an autographed Carroll Shelby glove box beside correct Smiths black faced gauges which include a traditional 8,000 RPM no redline tachometer. Below the seats, new carpet is protected by rugged Superformance floor mats, and at the sides of the seats, the cars fiberglass doors have been covered in matching black leather. In front of the driver, a 15 inch leather wrapped steering wheel features satin aluminum spokes and a correct Superformance horn button, and beside the driver a chrome shifter and chrome hand brake sit directly in front of a chrome fire extinguisher. Behind the cockpit, the cars fairly sizable trunk has enough room for a couple of light suitcases or a day’s worth of gear for the golf course.

Included with this sale is a poster that features professional photographs of the car, a list of its build components and a short narrative about why it was created.
Carefully assembled, flawless in condition and equipped with the hardware to deliver the ride of your life, this Cobra is sure to satisfy anyone who has a pulse. Why waste your valuable time waiting for a car to be built when we have a top quality Shelby licensed Superformance SEMA show car sitting in our RK Motors Charlotte showroom? Don’t miss this opportunity to own a spectacular turn-key car that’s just as nice as an original Cobra, and probably more fun to drive, at a fraction of the price.
